It’s worse that Stravinsky reckoned. Vivaldi did not, he quipped, write 500 concertos but the same concerto 500 times. And even that one, he somehow forgot to add (or maybe he didn’t), is shit.
The trouble is, people will insist on discovering more and more of them, usually amid florid claims and without stopping to think that there might be a damn good reason someone buried them deep in libraries, out of harm’s way.
Now it looks like there’s one more to add to the 500, this time found at a library in Dresden. It’s about time someone started undiscovering these wretched tinkling nightmares, save us all the distress.
